FREDERICTON FILM DIARY - PIERRE HUARD - NB JOY AWARD WINNER
We have wrapped and I could not be more pleased with my cast and crew.
Someone suggested that I apply for the NB Joy Award a few years ago and I was honoured to receive it for a project that I wanted to do on youth and bullying.
We started shooting on a Friday evening recently. On the Saturday morning we were greeted by a school bus at 9am, and shot at that location. Then, that afternoon found us on campus until supper time. We were back on campus on Sunday and we wrapped our film early Sunday afternoon.
I could not have done this project without the help of NBFC members Michel Guitard, his company CinemaTick and Genevieve Goguen who put up with me for the last few months, thank you for your patience.
Not only did I get to work with Co-op members that I had worked with in the past such as Michael Guitard who was DOP and provided an important location for the shoot, I also had Jared Carney and Harry Palmer who helped out with lighting and camera, and Paul Angers did incredible special effects make-up. Most importantly, I also was given the opportunity to work with new members. Alex Brewer did an awesome job on sound (Thank you NBFC member Bruce Legrow of Insurmountable Sounds for getting our newbie sound man up to speed on what we needed for this project), my first AD Genevieve Goguen kept us on schedule and we never ran late. And, Jennifer Coburn fresh from another member shoot, was able to experience what it was like working on a more micro shoot.
I can't express how much fun I had working with Quentin Palmer who did a great job playing the lead role as a boy being bullied who stands up for himself and fights back. Another talented young actor was Gabriel Guitard who played a very convincing bully well and, Alex Huard who did a great job playing the bullied boy's friend. I also want to mention what a great job all the extras did making the background come to life.
I thank my cast and crew for their patience and grace during production. I know that I can be a challenge to work with sometimes, special thanks to campus staff at one of the locations, who were great to put up with us for the weekend. We had a wonderful time and we made a film about something that matters. Bullying can result in a person feeling so helpless, depressed and alienated. The story we all worked on together is about how sometimes you have to stand up for yourself and act.
Last but never least, I thank the NB Film Co-op because without the Co-op, none of these independent productions and activities would be possible. We need to thank and support our Film Co-op ongoing and never forget how lucky we are to have it.

MONCTON FILM DIARY - PIERRE CORMIER
Misfortune is my first short film after graduating from the Centre for Arts and Technology.
After all that planning through out the summer with the help of my trusty production coordinator Donovan Richard, this film is progressing well after the first weekend of filming.
The project is more visual than dialogue driven and, I’ve put my trust in my DOP Emily St. Pierre who I attended college with. If everything goes as planned this visual drama should be completed by the end of September and ready for the editing suite!
I’m planning to have it ready to send to Atlantic based film festivals in 2015, especially Silver Wave.
It’s been a great learning experience and I’m excited to see the final product.
Thanks to the Co-op, members, friends and family for all the help. I think its great that the Film Co-op community is spread out all over New Brunswick, loved being able to shoot my film in my community with the Co-op's help.
