It is with great pleasure that the NB Film Co-op announces that member Kennlin Barlow's imagineNATIVE/NB Film Co-op incubator awarded short film "Mancanti (or the violence of man) has been accepted into the Cannes Short Film Corner this May at the Cannes Film Festival in Paris.
It is not in competition, nor an official selection. Short Film Corner is a great experience for young filmmakers to understand the international film market, and network with producers, distributors and other filmmakers of all ages and levels.
Kennlin thanks the NB Film Co-op, imagineNATIVE and all his cast and crew for the support to bring his project alive.

NOW OPEN TO MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBERS CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Women Making Waves Pitch Competition 2017 with EXTENDED DEADLINE
At this year’s Pitch This: The New Normal competition, Women in Film and Television - Atlantic (WIFT-AT) will reward one short film pitch that spotlights diversity. $10,000 in prizes including $1000 cash and over $10,000 in-kind services from William F. Whites and Village Sound as well as one day of online services from 902Post
Pitch This: The New Normal encourages filmmakers of all backgrounds to include equality, diversity, and inclusion as part of their pitch concept.
The competition is open to both members and non-members and all pitch finalists will receive a free full membership. There is no application fee. Go ahead and send your pitch!
For your pitch to be considered, send your CV along with a one-page pitch to info@wift-at.com by midnight, February 19th. Your one-pager must include a title, a short synopsis, and an explanation of how your project incorporates equality, diversity, or inclusion — in the scenes or behind the scenes.
Five selected filmmakers will have the opportunity to present their five-minute pitch before an industry selection committee and a live audience at the Women Making Waves Conference on Saturday, March 4.

HIFF CALL FOR ATLANTIC CANADIAN ENTRIES
Short Film Submissions Due April 3rd, 11:59pm, 2017
The Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival (HIFF) is accepting short film submissions from Atlantic Canadian filmmakers until Monday, April 3rd. Entries will be accepted by online screener only through FilmFreeway. There are no fees for Atlantic Canadian submissions.
Now entering its 11th year HIFF showcases bold, original films that challenge convention in subject or form. Short films for HIFF 2017 will be selected by a peer-jury of local filmmakers.
Submissions to HIFF 2017 must have been completed after Jan. 1st 2016, have a max. runtime of 25 minutes and be presented with English-language subtitles if in a language other than English.
Filmmakers whose work is selected to screen at HIFF 2017 will receive a free pass to the festival, a screening fee (based on rates set by the Independent Media Arts Alliance) and the opportunity to take part in other film festival initiatives including: one-on-one meetings with visiting programmers, masterclasses with visiting filmmakers and a new distribution initiative. Programmers @ HIFF
Short filmmakers who are accepted into HIFF 2017 will benefit by having their work seen by visiting programmers from top Canadian and International film festivals. They will also be eligible to take part in one-on-one meetings with visiting programmers. In previous years, this initiative has included programmers from festivals such as TIFF, VIFF, FNC, South by SouthWest, Vienna Independent Shorts and Edinburgh International Film Festival.
Masterclasses @ HIFF
For the second year in a row, HIFF 2017 will include daytime masterclass with visiting filmmakers. The masterclasses will be open to filmmakers’ whose work is screening in the festival with some additional spots made available to HIFF alumni and the public.
Distribution @ HIFF
New this year, short filmmakers who are accepted into HIFF 2017 will be eligible to take part in a Distribution Initiative where they will receive training, mentorship and a small fund for marketing and festival submission fees. The HIFF jury will select 6 filmmakers who will be invited to take part in this unique opportunity.
Entries for HIFF 2017 will be accepted by online screener only at www.hiff.ca/submit. There are no fees for Atlantic Canadian submissions. Deadline for entries is April 3rd, 11:59pm 2017.

Presented by the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative, the Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival is a boutique festival dedicated to showcasing bold, innovative film and media art from the Atlantic region and around the world.
