CONNECTING MEMBERS - JEREMY MURRAY, SAINT JOHN
My name is Jeremy Murray I am a filmmaker who one day desires to make various types of films including but not limited to documentaries.
I will graduate from the media arts and culture’s degree program with a concentration in film production at the University of New Brunswick in October. I have produced many different types of media including short films for class and distribution on the web.
I was born with cerebral palsy which in my eyes gives me a unique perspective on life and filmmaking due to the perceived limitations that having a disability presents. In many ways I use my work as a filmmaker not only to showcase my skills as a filmmaker, but also to raise awareness to the fact that life shouldn’t stop you because you have a disability.
If you have a passion for something like I do for filmmaking, then, create something and realize a goal.
Jeremy is doing a fundraiser now which will enable him to be more mobile as he has moved in with his sister in the Saint John area, PLEASE GO TO THIS LINK TO DONATE TO ASSIST HIM: https://www.youcaring.com/jeremymurray-887250
CONNECTING MEMBERS - GAVIN REID, FREDERICTON
Hello, Fellow Members! Gavin A. Reid here from Fredericton, New Brunswick.
I am currently finishing off my Double Major in History and Religious Studies at St. Thomas University, which fuels my passions as a creative mind.
My hope is that through the Film Co-op, I may grow as a creative, but also as a person.
Currently, I and a local actor are in the process of creating a film based around one of the terrorist attacks in Europe, from a very low key personal perspective.
This film would be a means of exploring and creating dialogue, around the attacks; from multiple different angles and, agendas. It is an interesting and challenging project, which I hope will come to fruition in a few years.
I am also working for the NBASW, taking pictures of their members for their social media and promotional uses. Sadly it is a student position, so I will be done by early September.
I am always down for coffee or beer!
Hope to connect with some of you this fall and coming year.
Gavin

https://connexionarc.org/2017/06/22/harvest/
Extended Submission Deadline: August 7, 2017
Connexion Artist-Run Centre is calling for project proposals for the presentation of contemporary arts during this year’s Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival. The festival will be hosted from September 12 – 17 in Fredericton, NB, offering 400+ musical performances over the course of 6 days.
Selected projects will be presented during the festival’s street closure, as the prospective presentation site, located in Fredericton’s downtown core, a map of the festival can be found here. (The street closure area is highlighted in purple.)
We acknowledge that the festival takes place on the traditional unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) and Mi’kmaq peoples.
This opportunity is open to local, national and international artists working in any medium, discipline or professional level. Given the logistical nature of presenting projects in public, street-level spaces during a music festival, a preference will be given by the selections committee to video, sonic, interactive, temporary, performance-based, or site-specific installation projects. Projects considering the context of the community, exploring experimental and emerging ideas, discussing issues of social urgency, and presenting diverse perspectives and lived experiences, are welcome.

TIFF AND ESPN SEEKING EMERGING FILMMAKERS UNDER 30

TIFF + ESPN grant for emerging filmmakers under 30
My name is Desirée de Jesus and I coordinate initiatives and events for post-secondary students here at TIFF.
I wanted to tell you about an exciting opportunity for youth and emerging filmmakers. TIFF and ESPN have come together to offer a $25,000 grant for a filmmaker 30 years of age and under in support of a short documentary related to sports and/or athletics.
The deadline to apply is October 30.
In support of this grant, TIFF will also be holding a free Film Treatment Workshop in Toronto on August 10 for those applying to the grant or who have a film proposal/treatment they'd like to workshop.
We are wondering if there might be filmmakers, youth, audience members at the New Brunswick Filmmakers' Co-operative who would be interested in applying for the grant or having their film treatment reviewed and critiqued by industry professionals. Would it be possible to include this grant in an upcoming e-alert, social media, or outreach email to key emerging folks under 30?
Please email us at: hlf@tiff.net to inquire further.
