BRIAN'S LEGACY

The NB Film Co-op, Picaroons and the Silver Wave Film Festival were excited to give out the very first Brian Carty Volunteer Recognition Award for a person, group or organization who has contributed significantly to film and video in New Brunswick in a volunteer capacity (Cash Award of $500 thanks to our SWFF sponsor Picaroons). Not only was Brian a filmmaker, musician and singer, he loved nothing better than to help his son out with an essay or a Picaroons growler.
"Receiving the Brian Carty Volunteer Recognition Award is very touching because this community has been a second family to me for over ten years. I've made life long friends and collaborators and I've grown so much as a filmmaker, and all that was required of me to be a part of that was to be equally excited over the work and progress of those around me. Honestly, there isn't a single member of this delightfully weird community who doesn't deserve recognition, and so it really moves me to be singled out in this way." Jillian Acreman
This award would not be possible without the long-time support of SWFF sponsor Picaroons and, we thank them.
Jillian Acreman was also awarded the CBC/NB Joy Award this year for her short film project (Queen of the Andes)
"Winning the CBC/NB Joy Award means so much to me. I've been wanting to get this project off the ground for a couple years, and it's so encouraging to finally be given the resources and the opportunity to set it in motion! I always feel so much genuine support from my film peers, and I just can't wait to make this film!" Jillian Acreman

LEGACY
The 2017 Jane LeBlanc Filmmaker Award Winner: Kaitlyn Adair for her project: March 2.4. (Photo by: Stephen MacGillivray Photography & Video www.atwphoto.com)
March 2.4 is Kaitlyn Adair's own sacred story. It not only gives voice to her truth as a woman but it also gives voice to thousands of women around the world experiencing violence who are misunderstood, marginalized, and shamed.
March 2.4 is her first time stepping behind the camera in the filmmaker role.
