The NB Film Co-op recently hosted an in-depth acting workshop with award-winning actor and filmmaker Shelley Thompson. It went so well, we are bringing her back for two days in 2019 to do a more intensive workshop.

The NB Film Co-op recently hosted award-winning actress and filmmaker Shelley Thompson who lead an amazingly interactive actor masterclass.
Shelley had her work cut out for her as the attendees who traveled from across New Brunswick to take in the workshop were all at different levels in their acting development.
Although not an actor, as the workshop instructor for the Film Co-op, I was not going to miss the opportunity to sit in on this specialized class. I was spellbound by Shelley's expertise, insight, and energy!
Shelley was a real force of nature in action as she took each participant through hands-on scene exercises which were videotaped. First, each duo acted out a scene after preparing for it in advance. Then, Shelley broke down what they had done and shared her sharp observations and advice. The result: the actors then went back once again to act out the scene, and the difference in their performance was striking and much stronger.
These unique workshops with outside instructors are invaluable, and the NB Film Co-op hopes to host more of them. Thanks to a strong partnership with WIFT-AT and its membership, we can utilize a whole network of WIFT-AT members who live in the different provinces, who have an expertise they can share about acting and filmmaking.
What struck me specifically about this workshop was that not only was a large group of provincial actors introduced to someone with expertise outside of their community which is a nice change; it was also a great networking experience as Shelley asked the group to email her and keep in touch and dialogue with her ongoing.
Thank you, Shelley Thompson.
