CONNECTING MEMBERS - PAUL ROY
Paul was born in the city of Toronto in 1967, not remembering any of it, his earliest memories are of Timmins Ontario, where he went to the same school as Shania Twain. He can recall being a big show off, smarty pants, troublemaker, always looking to be the center of attention. In 1974, his parents decided to uproot him to the isolation of an Island with bright red mud. His new home would be Summerside, where he went to school until graduation.
During those school years, he found himself interested in drama, films, and music. There was an absolute joy in making people laugh, that filled his need to perform. During high school, Paul was on stage performing in variety shows, with some comedic flair he had borrowed from Monty Python, or SNL, or any of the other things he had seen on video or heard on cassette or vinyl. Paul was also a creator of puppets. He loved to put on little puppet shows for friends and family, changing voices and taking on several characters at one time. In 1990, he decided to take advantage of the writer's strike in the US and try to get hired at SNL. After sending in a cassette tape of all his voices and skits, he got an invite to audition for SNL on August 27, 1990. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful in fulfilling his dream of working as a prime time player at NBC and decided to “go west young man” instead. He drove across the country, arriving in Calgary with about $100 to his name.
During his life in Calgary, he was able to rub shoulders with a great many in the comedic performing arts, at Loose Moose Theatre. Lacking the confidence to perform, he was more of a spectator and dreamer of ideas for this fellowship, having fun participating in workshop activities & learning more about performing. But, it wasn’t earning him a living.
In ‘92 Paul learned to work as a tile setter, which became his primary means of income for the next 16 years — moving back to Moncton in 1999 to continuing the work. In 2008, he put away the tools and went to work as a sales rep for a Window Blind Manufacturer. Life on the road was not kind to him; he gained 100 pounds and developed diabetes. Paul started to think, ‘time to make some serious changes.’
2018 saw the changes take root as he left Moncton for a fresh start in Fredericton. He has resumed work as a tile setter, doing specialty work.

After noticing that there were so many theatre companies creating in Fredericton, Paul felt the strong urge to get back into performing. After a couple of attempts at auditions, he joined Branch Out Productions and was cast as ‘Mr. Kodai’ in The Parfumerie. Then, more recently, he was cast in the film, After The War: The Battle Ahead. Productions begins in May.
Paul is a new associate member of the NB Film Co-op and has registered for the acting workshop, (Becoming a More Complete Actor with Elizabeth Goodyear) through the Film Co-op's annual workshop program.
The creative adventure continues for Paul. They say life starts at 50 and, for Paul, this new restart is moving ahead as he leaves an already exciting life behind him.

Film Co-op member Andy McNamara
I recently helped an acquaintance of mine set up a small start-up business (formatting e-books for amazon, arranging and editing YouTube videos, and coordinating with a web designer friend on a business website for her). As such, I have this great website plan ready to go, social media plans, and time and interest to do more video recording and editing, or photography, but no one else that I know of to help. If anyone is interested in a small business start up to include a website, short YouTube videos (filming and editing), photos, monthly newsletters and social media set-ups without costing an arm and a leg, please let me know. I charge a very reasonable pirice and can barter and talk further about it as well.

UPDATE YOUR CAST AND CREW PROFILE TODAY!
So you've joined the NB Film Co-op. You've taken a bunch of workshops. You've gone to networking events. But you're still unsure how to actually get involved with a film shoot.
One way to get your name out there is to register for the NB Film Co-op Cast and Crew Profile. It's a database where filmmakers can see a list of members who are able to fill in various cast and crew positions. It's simple to fill out and in no time your name will be made available to all filmmakers who are looking for cast and crew for their upcoming projects. It has recently been modified to allow new members with little or no experience create a profile, and it also allows members to fill in a more complete resume if they wish.
It's also beneficial for our more experienced members too. It is a place where commercial filmmakers can go to search for people to hire for paid shoots, and it gives members a platform to self promote themselves and their work.
So please, take a few minutes to fill out your profile and help the Co-op promote you!
This benefit is for Film Co-op members in good standing with their dues paid up. Email info@nbfilmcoop.com to find out more info.
Note: If you want to get calls from outside production companies and local production companies looking for creative crew, please ask Cat to be put on her film job short list. She can't refer you if you don't let her know.
