CONNECTING MEMBERS - CAM WOYKIN AWARDED GRANTS FOR NEW FILM PROJECT
"I’m thrilled to be a recipient of the Short Film Venture grant and would like to thank the New Brunswick Filmmakers’ Co-op, Telefilm, and the New Brunswick Department of Tourism, Heritage, and Culture for their support. Looking forward to getting down to work!"
About: Cam Woykin studied studio art and anthropology at the University of Lethbridge, and graduated with an MFA in film production from York University. His films, installations, and photographs have been exhibited at festivals, galleries, and alternative spaces across Canada and internationally. His current creative work deals with themes pertaining to impermanence, humanity’s existential struggle with nature, and the psychological impact of environment on personal and cultural narratives. Cam also maintains an active practice as a media arts instructor, encouraging experimental and hybrid approaches to narrative filmmaking.
Cam has taught courses and workshops throughout the country, from major cities to fly-in First Nation communities. He currently teaches at the University of New Brunswick - Fredericton and is a member of the NB Film Co-op.
Short Synopsis: The Grove is an atmospheric short fiction that follows two young siblings on their quest to deliver secret notes to their mother, who mysteriously vanished years prior. In order for the missing mother to receive her children’s private hand-drawn messages, the siblings must travel to a creepy nearby wood and bury their notes in the soil; at least that’s what their father told them before he slipped into a creeping melancholia and quite participating in the ritual.

FILM DIARY - DANIELLE D'ENTREMONT & A PROMISE OF LIGHT

Danielle d'Entremont is expanding her film horizon by taking on the role of Producer's Assistant on Tim Moran's, A Promise of Light.
A Promise of Light is a fantasy film being filmed in the Niagara region of Ontario. While most of the team is in the GTA, Danielle helps contribute with organizational aspects from NB.
Keeping track of deadlines for the team, sending out reminders, creating vegan grocery lists for craft snacks on shoot days, and posting on all social media platforms, are all examples of the types of tasks she is currently in charge of.
She believes in creating opportunities for yourself through Networking. When someone recommends reaching out to someone specific she follows through and doesn't believe in letting those conversational gifts fall on deaf ears.
As this is the first production she is a part of in Toronto, she is also keeping an eye on additional opportunities in the area. She will be volunteering at the 44th TIFF this year and in her free time is planning networking meetings.
Passionate about the film community, she hopes to carve a path out for more New Brunswick Film Co-op members to work on Toronto projects as well.
Please take a moment to follow A Promise of Light on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to support this wonderful team.

UPDATE YOUR CAST AND CREW PROFILE TODAY!
So you've joined the NB Film Co-op. You've taken a bunch of workshops. You've gone to networking events. But you're still unsure how to actually get involved with a film shoot.
One way to get your name out there is to register for the NB Film Co-op Cast and Crew Profile. It's a database where filmmakers can see a list of members who are able to fill in various cast and crew positions. It's simple to fill out and in no time your name will be made available to all filmmakers who are looking for cast and crew for their upcoming projects. It has recently been modified to allow new members with little or no experience create a profile, and it also allows members to fill in a more complete resume if they wish.
It's also beneficial for our more experienced members too. It is a place where commercial filmmakers can go to search for people to hire for paid shoots, and it gives members a platform to self promote themselves and their work.
So please, take a few minutes to fill out your profile and help the Co-op promote you!
This benefit is for Film Co-op members in good standing with their dues paid up. Email info@nbfilmcoop.com to find out more info.
Note: If you want to get calls from outside production companies and local production companies looking for creative crew, please ask Cat to be put on her film job short list. She can't refer you if you don't let her know.
