Workshop Description: 

Who should attend: The workshop is designed for anyone in the arts sector but can apply to anyone starting out in business and find the topic of business and taxes an overwhelming task. The workshop covers some basic information along with some detail on the treatment and reporting of business income and expenditures.

Topics covered include:
Proprietor vs. incorporation-advantages and disadvantages
Treatment of business income and expenses
Home based expenses
Use of a personal vehicle
Harmonized Sales Tax
Filing a Statement of Business Income and Expenses with the Canada Revenue Agency
Basic Financial Statements

If time permits, topics of raising funds for your business such as:

Bank financing
Government Assistance Programs
Venture Capital
Crowd Funding

Instructor's Biography: 
Gary Belding is a lifelong resident of New Brunswick. Gary has three grown children who were raised in Fredericton and have journeyed through the school music programs. Gary is also a proud grandfather of three beautiful granddaughters. Gary has been an actor in a number of short and feature films and a member of the NB Filmmakers Cooperative and Lead of the Actors Helping Actors Workshop. After retiring from the Provincial Government of New Brunswick as the Manager of Financial programs with Business New Brunswick in April 2011, Gary now operates his own business, Belding Business Financing Solutions. Currently, he assists new and existing entrepreneurs with access to financing solutions including bank financing, government assistance programs, non conventional financing and private equity. Assignments also include the preparation of business plans, feasibility studies, business information sessions, small corporate income tax returns and a number of accounting contracts. Gary also has written a number of articles in Risk & Business Magazine which has national circulation. He is also a Distinguished Toastmaster and currently enrolled in the Accredited Speaker Program with Toastmasters International. This evening, Gary will be talking about Business and Taxes for NB Artists.
