DOCUMENTARY FILM STORYTELLING

(Film Co-op Members are required to take at least one documentary workshop before they direct/produce their own documentary projects through the Film Co-op)
No matter the length, budget or subject of your project, your film needs a strong story to succeed. In this one-day workshop with scriptwriter Kate Wallace, we’ll get down to basics, investigating what stories are and why they are so powerful.
Through diverse examples and interactive exercises, we’ll explore the art and craft of documentary film storytelling. You’ll learn to harness the elements of story, including structure, theme, setting, dialogue, tension, plot points, perspective and, most importantly, character to generate emotion and action.
This participatory workshop is for documentary screenwriters of all levels of experience, including aspiring. Bring your works-in-progress, your problem-child scripts, your nuggets of inspiration. Together, we’ll hone in on the story you need to tell.
