THE MOST AWESOME GRIP WORKSHOP EVER

(Film Co-op Members are required to take a grip workshop before they handle gear on set on projects through the Film Co-op)

A film crew position which most people are unfamiliar with, yet it plays a key role in the making of a successful film is a ‘Key Grip’. Your seasoned instructor Tim O’Neill who has been a gaffer and grip on multiple films, will go over the many duties of the grip on set. Typically on a short film, there should be at least one key grip or gaffer or both who can direct and mentor others on what has to be done.

SCREENWRITING

The first step to making a great short film is to cultivate and perfect the script. This workshop intensive will help you take your scripts to the next level. Whether you’re just curious about screenwriting, seeking to develop your first short film, or looking to further develop your skills as a screenwriter, this intensive will get you down to work and hone your writing abilities.

PRODUCTION DESIGN 101

(Film Co-op Members are required to take this workshop before they direct/produce their own projects through the Film Co-op)

The Production Designer conceives and creates the overall look, mood and style of the film, working in close conjunction with the Director and the DOP. This can mean adapting existing locations to ones purpose, or creating new ones from scratch.

This workshop will look at the stages of practical preparation and production on a film, dealing with restrictions of money, time and resources.

AN INTRODUCTION TO NON-LINEAR PICTURE EDITING

Being a technically proficient non-linear picture editor that knows how to input files from different sources, organize them in the right folders, set up your timeline, and do rough edits is important. Knowing the basics and getting started is what this workshop is all about.

THE DIRECTOR’S PERSPECTIVE

(Film Co-op Members are required to take at least one directing course before they direct/produce their own projects through the Film Co-op)

Using a combination of presentation, discussion and practical exercises, the workshop will cover filmmaking from the director’s perspective. This workshop will also cover working with actors and how to elicit the best performance from them.

The workshop is especially useful for those new filmmakers who are interested in writing, 
producing and directing their own material.

LOCATION SOUND

A hands-on workshop for anyone interested in doing effective sound recording on films and videos.

Participants will learn about location sound, and the troubles and tribulations that go along with trying to have perfect audio in the midst of whirling fans, beeps and bumps. Production sound techniques will be discussed and demonstrated.
