Workshop Description:
Cinematographer Becky Parsons discusses the relationship between the DOP and director on an indie production.
Indie low budget filmmaking Film Co-op style: the filmmaker invests their own money, may have some small creative grants or not. In most cases, they are the creative head and typically are the director/writer.
Often in these productions, the director is also the writer, and how might this impact the DOP and director collaboration? This question and others will be discussed to explore further the DOP and director relationship. Within the three phases of motion picture production, the DOP is involved in; Pre-production, Production, Post-production. In this session, Becky draws from her experience working with indie writers/directors, what she has discovered to be the best and most efficient practices for low-budget shooting, and the importance of the relationships between the director, the cinematographer, and the rest of the creative and technical teams on indie shoots.
